Prochorus brings hope to the people of Kayamandi.

On the outskirts of Stellenbosch, is a small informal settlement called Kayamandi. Founded in the apartheid regime, the community was started to house black migrant farm workers. This community now consists of 20 000 people, most of whom are living in shacks and have little or no income.

Elsa Pretorious (right) is the managing director at Prochorus and has a passion for helping the people of Kayamandi. I went out to capture "a day in the life" of Prochorus in order to raise some awareness about this cause. You can read more about Prochorus, or you make a secure donation by clicking on the link below. Secure payment to Prochorus are processed by the GivenGain Foundation, a nonprofit organization registered in Switzerland. Alternatively you can share this page with others through facebook or Twitter.

Shacks are small and not very durable. Leaks often occur and occupants use plywood to seal broken windows.
